Obama's Midterm Foreign Policy Grade: F

Once again, I hate to hand out failing grades, but as incompetent Obama has been on domestic policy, his foreign policy has been an even bigger disaster. The president’s job is to protect Americans at all costs, and under Obama and the Eric Holder led Department of Justice (DOJ), America is less safe.

Obama’s first action as president was to announce the closing of Guantanamo Bay and to move and incarcerate enemy combatants on American soil. This will never happen; Americans do not want terrorists in their neighborhoods – even if they are behind bars.

Obama’s next action was to give enemy combatants the same rights as every American so they can be tried in civilian courts. The goal was to do away with indefinitely incarcerating detainees and to abolish military tribunals. Remember, not even our military personnel have civilian rights; they are still tried in military tribunals. The DOJ announced that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), the 9-11 mastermind, and five other conspirators will be tried in a civilian court in New York City. The public opposition to this proposal was immense. Hence, the DOJ has since reversed its decision and KSM will continue to be held indefinitely at Guantanamo with no set trial date. The first and only enemy combatant tried in a civilian court was Ahmed Ghailani. Ghailani was charged with 1 count of conspiracy and 284 counts of murder for his role in the Tanzania and Kenya embassy bombings in 1998. This case was supposed to be a slam dunk, but Ghailani was only found guilty of conspiracy and acquitted for the murders. Ghailani merely faces up to 20 years for his role in killing 284 people. This is not justice because Ghailani will be free to kill again. Imagine the outcry if Timothy McVeigh was only given 20 years, instead of death, for murdering 169 people in the Oklahoma City bombing?

There have been 3 attempted terror attacks on the U.S. during Obama’s watch. Only one was successful because the Times Square Bomber and the Underwear Bomber were incompetent and the administration refused to call the Fort Hood Massacre a terror attack.

While Obama and the DOJ have bent over backwards to protect the civil liberties of enemy combatants; meanwhile the situation in Iran and North Korea continues to erode. Both rogue nations continue to test short, medium, and long range missiles and at the same time they continue to make progress enriching uranium and plutonium. To make matters worse, North Korea has attacked South Korea twice over the past year. Still, nothing is being done to “contain” the situation and both nations are projected to have a nuclear arsenal within the next few years.

If this is not bad enough, the Obama administration has done nothing to secure our borders with Mexico, even as drug cartel violence moves closer to our border. The DOJ has filed suit against the state of Arizona and their immigration law to enforce federal statutes. If the federal government refuses to enforce its laws, then states and local communities should be allowed to enforce them. And what’s worse, Obama and Democrats are working hard to provide amnesty to some 10 to 15 million illegal aliens living in the United States. If they accomplish this task without securing the boarder, expect millions more to migrate across our borders expecting the same treatment.

Do you feel safer with terrorists and murderers getting 20 years in civilian courts? Do you feel safer with our borders remaining unsecured? Do you feel safer with North Korea and Iran months away from a nuclear bomb? Do you feel safer with the number of terrorist attacks around the globe and on the United States going up each year? So I ask has Obama really made us safer?
