The American Caste System

Many Hindu religious followers in India believed in a caste system. The caste system basically segregates populations by social status. Thus, people were classified as wealthy, intelligent, poor, and so forth. The lowest social status standing in the caste system was often referred to as “untouchables”. No one from a higher social status were allowed to interact with them, they were outcasts. Thus, any persons born into the “untouchable” status were destined to work low paying hard labor jobs and therefore, would remain impoverished. There was absolutely no chance or opportunity to move up the caste system to better their social economic status. Of course, modern Indian laws prohibit caste discrimination. In fact, most caste system barriers have been broken down in most major cities throughout India. However, many tribal Hindu followers located in rural areas still adhere to the caste system and its principals. The history of the caste system or social discrimination was not isolated to Hinduism or India; it was common around the globe. Even Western countries such as England and France discriminated against “peasants”.

The caste system may be described as being discriminatory, prehistoric, barbaric, and so forth. But many nations around the world still follow some concepts similar to the caste system. For instance, many Muslim nations still treat women and homosexuals as second class citizens who are obviously discriminated against.

The present day United States does not have a caste system per se, but there is no question that liberal policies have created a social status pecking order. That is why fewer than 20% of all people born into poverty ever escape poverty. Liberal entitlement policies and programs are the reason for this alarming statistic.

Social economically challenged Americans can receive money (welfare), food (food stamps), health care (Medicaid), and low income housing without ever working a job or making any positive impact towards society. Yes, Americans exploit our entitlement programs, but this is not their fault. They have been brainwashed through the generations into believing that not only will the government will be there to give them handouts, it was expected. And what is our government focused on today? They are creating yet another entitlement program for health care. Do we ever learn any lessons from past failures?

Most of America’s impoverished individuals will never leave their neighborhoods, which are usually located in decaying inner cities that are ravaged with crime and addictions. And it is important to keep in mind that the entitlement handouts, that are given to the poor, are miniscule and only enough to keep the poor alive to continue a miserable existence in wretched conditions.

Entitlement programs not only create a social economic status pecking order similar to the caste system, they create an ethnic barrier system as well. Since more African-Americans and Hispanics live in poverty, they are being segregated by these policies. While whites escape the cities, a large proportion of minorities remain behind bound by the barriers of inner city ghettos. Detroit is a classic example of how liberal policies lead to an ever growing number of poverty stricken individuals contained within a small area segregated from the rest of society. This is not much different than American social policy towards Native-Americans where almost half live in poverty on assigned reservations.

All of this said, the problem of poverty and segregation will persist and get worse in the future. As more and more people are born into poverty they will cost the Federal government more and more money, placing us further in debt with higher taxes on income earning Americans. Until African-Americans turn their backs on dismal minority leaders (Sharpton and Jackson) that want and expect the government to provide everlasting handouts, the situation will not get better. Of course Democrats and Republicans will never try to end entitlement programs because they will be labeled as racists and will of course lose potential votes that can cost them an election. For this reason, I am convinced that Democrats and minority leaders want to keep African-Americans oppressed. After all, if they beat the odds and escape poverty, they no longer have any need for them.
