President Obama claims to have achieved historic and unprecedented measures as our nation’s leader. One of his historic achievements is saying “It’s not about me”. This statement is Obama’s defense to every piece of legislation and every policy he supports. This is unique behavior because the president represents the people and nothing they do should be for their benefit. Unfortunately, everything Obama accomplishes is solely to satisfy is narcissistic ego. When a person has to constantly defend their actions by saying “It’s not about me”, rest assured it is about them. The only thing Obama is concerned about is his presidential legacy, case closed! He can care less about the people.
If Obama and Democrats truly cared about the people and not their legacy then why has every piece of legislation passed by these leaders failed to accomplish their goals? Think about it; the Recover Act (the 862 billion dollar stimulus) failed to create jobs, healthcare reform has failed to keep insurance and healthcare costs low, and financial reform will not prevent another financial collapse. The reason for this is simple; Obama and the Democrats drafted and rammed these legislative initiatives into law as quickly as possible. This is why they ignored Republican requests and crafted deals with special interest groups - to avoid debate over the legislation. This is also the reason they failed to read the legislation they passed. Why? They did not care what was in the bill, they solely wanted to be known as the people who passed healthcare and financial reform – it is their legacy.
If the Recover Act was not about Obama, then why did the legislation fail to achieve its sole purpose of creating jobs? The Democrats created and passed this pork riddled legislation as quickly as possible and did not read it. They did not care what was in the bill; their sole focus was to try to do something historic and unprecedented. Well, they succeeded; the stimulus was the most wasteful piece of legislation in our history. That is why they are defending the legislation by claiming it “saved” 3 million jobs. Unfortunately, a “saved” job is a fictitious statistic that is not official kept by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The results of healthcare reform will have a negative impact on every American in terms of their wellbeing and their total expenditures. Insurance and healthcare costs will rise dramatically over the upcoming years. There will be doctor, nurse, and hospital bed shortages. Why? Simply because the legislation only tries to reform the health insurance industry, but it fails to reform other aspects of the healthcare industry such as drug markets, trial lawyers, doctor access, and so forth. The legislation assumes there will be no negative repercussions of moving 30 million uninsured Americans onto Medicaid payrolls. Hence, there is no strategic vision in the legislation to mitigate potential risks and pitfalls since the bill was rushed. And there is a reason much of the healthcare reform law does not go into effect until Obama finishes his presidency – so it does not tarnish his reputation when he is in office.
The same can be said about financial reform. It is another piece of legislation that was passed in the most expedient way to avoid debate. But this bill will also fail miserably because it still holds the taxpayers responsible to bailout banks that are too large to fail and it fails to regulate government institutions. Government run entities such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Securities Exchange Commission, and the Federal Reserve, which failed to prevent the financial meltdown, are free to continue to practice their malicious, wasteful, and inefficient ways.
Every policy and legislation Obama passes is done for one purpose: to satisfy his ego and to make sure he has a legacy. I for one am leery of any person who has to continually defend their decisions by saying “It’s not about me”. When I heard those words coming from any corporate leader – it was time to watch your back. Well, it is no different in the sleazy world of politics. Everything a politician does is to satisfy their lust for their most important love affair – themselves.
