What is Obama's Motive Behind the Oil Spill?

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I am becoming more and more suspicious about the Obama administration’s handling of the Gulf oil spill. It is becoming apparent that Obama may actually want the spill to spiral out control. How is this possible? Well, it seems as if the Obama administration does not want to let a good crisis go to waste. Remember the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant accident? Liberals used this accident (that did not kill anyone) as a means to kill nuclear power in our country. The United States has not built a new nuclear power plant since the accident. Think about it; today nuclear energy makes up 20% of our energy supplies despite not building a new plant in 40 years. If the American public did not let progressives brainwash them into believing nuclear power is evil, it could easily account for 50% of our energy today. I am convinced liberals want to use the oil spill accident in a similar way. Yes, they want to use this disaster to push their energy agenda of cap and trade and green jobs on the American public. And the worse the oil spill becomes, the easier it will be to convince the public their plan is needed. Remember, cap and trade will cripple the economy by eliminating jobs and it will increase our energy cost over two fold. And let’s not forget how the model green jobs program in Spain has increased unemployment drastically in their economy. Let’s examine some of the facts since the spill occurred that suggest Obama wants this crisis to get worse.

First, consider Obama’s lackadaisical and nonchalant behavior. He is playing golf and basketball, attending fundraisers, attending baseball games and concerts. Meanwhile, he and Homeland Security head, Janet Napolitano, have spent a minimal amount of time at the scene of the accident. Where is the leadership and urgency? Yes, Obama cannot plug the leak, but he can direct the oil spill containment and clean up effort. It is almost as if he wants the spill to get worse?

Obama has refused help from foreign nations as well as from local corporations. It has gotten so bad many local communities are ignoring the federal government and taking matters into their own hands to clean up and protect their beaches. Obama is caving to environmentalist pressure by preventing many cleanup procedures such as chemicals, dredging, and controlled burns that may hurt the environment. As if these procedures will make this cataclysmic environmental disaster any worse. Obama has also dismissed many new ideas and methods such as using hay and other materials to clean up the oil. Doesn’t this give the impression that Obama wants the spill to get worse to push his energy agenda?

Obama placed a moratorium on deep water drilling for 6 months. This is not only bad for the economy, but it will work to decrease the supply of oil and therefore, increase the cost of gas. If gas prices go up, it will cause the public to push for a new energy policy. This is what Obama wants. Obama claimed during his address on the spill the U.S. is running out of places to drill for oil. This is not true. If Obama instead, reduced the mandates and restrictions on oil drilling, it could be done in safer regions including shallow waters and on land. However, this is not Obama’s goal; he wants to pressure the public into supporting his energy agenda, which is really in fact, a climate change agenda and not an energy agenda.

What about Obama’s treatment towards BP? Yes, BP is at fault and should be held accountable. But what happens if BP files for bankruptcy? This could be devastating and place the burden of the clean up on the American taxpayers. Obama should be worrying about capping the leak and cleaning up the mess before he opens any Department of Justice inquires into civil and criminal lawsuits that may bankrupt the oil giant. However, Obama wants BP to suffer. After all, if they go out of business, it will force gas prices higher. This, in turn, will make it easier to convince the public about his green jobs and cap and trade energy agenda.

Ironically, the Obama administration spent 2 billion funding Petrobras (Brazilian oil company that had 15 billion in profits) to do deep water drilling off the Brazilian coast. In fact, they will be drilling at depths over two times as deep as the Deepwater Horizon rig that exploded. A month prior to accident Obama said he would remove restrictions and allow oil companies to drill in the Atlantic. Despite this hypocrisy, Obama sees the Deepwater Horizon explosion as a blessing in disguise because it will enable him to convince the public that his energy power grab legislation is right for the United States. Obama will also lean on the recent coal mine accident in West Virginia to convince the public that not only are oil companies evil, so are coal companies.
